Is music allowed during the Eucharistic Prayer?
The short answer
No. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal says that while the priest speaks the presidential prayers, there should be no other prayer or song, and the organ and other instruments should be silent.
Spoken and heard
The presidential texts are to be spoken in a loud, clear voice, and everyone present should listen attentively.
No accompaniment
While the priest speaks them, there should be no other prayer or liturgical song, and the organ or other instruments should not be played (GIRM 32).
