Prayer in Time of Grief
A prayer for comfort and hope when someone we love has died.
Lord God, you are close to the brokenhearted. In my sorrow, hold me. Thank you for the gift of N., whom I have loved and lost for a while. Grant them eternal rest and the joy of your presence. Give me the grace to grieve with hope, trusting in the resurrection of your Son, who wept at the tomb of his friend and who promised that death is not the end. Amen.
About this prayer
Jesus wept at the death of Lazarus (John 11:35) — grief is not a lack of faith. Christians "you may not grieve like the rest, who have no hope" (1 Thessalonians 4:13).
