Where does the Bible say Jesus baptized?
The short answer
St. Augustine points to John 19:34: from Christ's side, pierced on the cross, flowed blood and water, the source of the Church's sacraments. The Catechism calls them types of baptism and the Eucharist.
St. Augustine points to John 19:34, where the soldier pierces Christ's side and blood and water flow out. In his commentary On the Gospel of John (120:2) he says the door of life was opened wide there, from which the Church's sacraments flowed, without which no one enters true life; there the second Adam slept on the cross so that a bride might be formed from his side.
The Catechism says the blood and water from the pierced side of the crucified Jesus are types of baptism and the Eucharist, the sacraments of new life, and that from then on it is possible "to be born of water and the Spirit" to enter God's kingdom (CCC 1225).
