Catechism
Greek katēchein, "to echo, to instruct by word of mouth"
Definition
An organized summary of Catholic teaching; especially the Catechism of the Catholic Church, published in 1992.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church (1992; revised Latin edition 1997) presents the whole of Catholic faith in 2,865 numbered paragraphs, arranged in four parts: the Creed, the Sacraments, Life in Christ, and Prayer.
Citations on Catholic.id appear as "CCC" plus the paragraph number, for example CCC 1374. A shorter Compendium (2005) and the youth edition YOUCAT (2011) follow the same structure.
