The SacramentsEssentials

Should Catholics do a reading at a non-Catholic wedding?

The Sacraments

The short answer

Yes, if invited. The Ecumenical Directory encourages Catholics at other churches' services to join in the psalms, responses, hymns and common actions, and says they may read a lesson or preach if their hosts invite them.

The Ecumenical Directory

In liturgical celebrations of other churches and ecclesial communities, Catholics are encouraged to take part in the psalms, responses, hymns and common actions of their hosts. If invited, they may read a lesson or preach (no. 118).
