Can I be my own child's godmother?
The short answer
No. Canon law states that a sponsor at baptism must not be the father or mother of the person being baptized. Ask your baptismal celebrant for help finding a suitable godparent.
What canon law says
Among the requirements for a baptismal sponsor, the Code of Canon Law specifies that the sponsor may not be the father or the mother of the person to be baptized (CIC 874).
Finding a godparent
Talk with the priest or deacon who will baptize your child. Clergy sometimes know people who have offered to serve as godparents when one is needed. You may also ask a priest, a deacon or a consecrated religious to be the godparent.
