Will we all be gods one day, as Mormons believe?
The short answer
No. When Jesus quoted "I said, 'You are gods,'" he referred to Psalm 82:6, where God addresses the mortal judges of Israel, called "gods" because of their high office. The next verse adds that they will die like any mortal.
When Jesus asked, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, "You are gods"'?" he was referring to Psalm 82:6. There God addressed Israel's judges, powerful but very mortal men who, because of their high office, could be called "gods."
The next verse keeps this in perspective: "Yet like any mortal you shall die; like any prince you shall fall" (Psalm 82:7).
