Is it wrong for law enforcement to use clairvoyants to solve crimes?

Moral Life

The short answer

Information given supernaturally to someone who did not seek it may generally be used for others' benefit with just cause, such as solving a crime. But deliberately seeking occult contact, or hiring someone to, is forbidden (CCC 2116), so agencies should not hire "psychic detectives."

If someone is supernaturally given information he did not seek, it is generally permissible to use it for others' benefit when there is just cause, such as solving a crime. But deliberately seeking occult contact with the supernatural realm, or hiring someone else to do so, is forbidden by the Church (CCC 2116).

So law enforcement may legitimately use information brought to them by someone who says he received it supernaturally, but morally they should not hire "psychic detectives" to seek information through occult means.
