Did Jesus die for Christians only?
The short answer
No. Jesus died to redeem all mankind, so even non-Christians are redeemed. But because each person is free to reject the gift, not everyone will necessarily be saved: Christ's death is sufficient for all, and effective for those who accept it.
For all people
Paul says Christians labor and struggle because they hope in the living God, the savior of all people and especially of believers (1 Timothy 4:10). God wills everyone to be saved (1 Timothy 2:3-4), so Christ died to redeem humanity and offer salvation to all.
Redeemed, but free
His death redeemed humanity as a whole, so we can say even non-Christians are redeemed. Yet each person has free will and can refuse the salvation offered as a gift. All are redeemed, but it is possible that not all will be saved.
Sufficient and effective
Christ's death is sufficient for the salvation of everyone, and it is effective for those who choose to accept it.
