The SacramentsEssentials

Do I need to be confirmed to be married in the Church?

The Sacraments

The short answer

It isn't an absolute requirement, but the Church strongly urges it. Canon law says Catholics not yet confirmed should receive confirmation before marriage if this can be done without grave inconvenience.

Strongly urged

Confirmation before marriage is not absolutely required, but the Church strongly encourages it.

Canon law

Catholics who have not received confirmation are to receive it before being admitted to marriage, if it can be done without grave inconvenience (CIC 1065).
