Isn't it wrong for a Catholic hospital cafeteria to serve meat on Lenten Fridays?

Prayer & Spirituality

The short answer

No. These cafeterias serve the general public, and non-Catholics are free to eat meat on Lenten Fridays. It would be a courtesy, though, to post a sign reminding Catholic patrons that it is a Lenten Friday and they must abstain.

A wider public

A Catholic hospital cafeteria serves many people who are not Catholic, and it is perfectly fine for them to eat meat on Fridays in Lent. Selling meat dishes is therefore not wrong.

A courtesy

It would be considerate for management to post a sign reminding Catholics that it is a Lenten Friday and that they are required to abstain from meat.
