Can people of the same sex marry each other?

The Sacraments

The short answer

No. God instituted marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman, and neither the Church nor society can change that. Even if the legal definition changed, same-sex couples would never truly be married.

So-called same-sex "marriage" is not marriage at all. God instituted marriage between a man and a woman: "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body" (Genesis 2:24).

Neither the Church nor secular society has the power or authority to change this. Even if the law redefined "marriage" to include same-sex couples, they would never truly be married.
