Rosary
Latin rosarium, "rose garden"
Definition
A Marian prayer of meditation on the life of Christ, prayed on beads in five decades of Hail Marys.
The Rosary developed in the Middle Ages, partly as a "Psalter of the laity" — 150 Hail Marys echoing the 150 Psalms. It has four sets of mysteries: Joyful, Luminous (added by John Paul II in 2002), Sorrowful and Glorious. October is the month of the Rosary.
