Immaculate Conception
Definition
The dogma that Mary was preserved free from original sin from the first moment of her conception, by the merits of Christ.
Defined by Pope Pius IX in 1854. It is frequently confused with the virgin birth of Jesus, but it concerns Mary's own conception. Feast: December 8.
