Eucharist
Greek eucharistia, "thanksgiving"
Definition
The sacrament of the body and blood of Christ, truly present under the appearances of bread and wine, and the Mass in which it is celebrated.
The Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life" (CCC 1324). Other names include the Lord's Supper, the Breaking of Bread, Holy Communion, the Holy Sacrifice and the Blessed Sacrament (CCC 1328-1332).
It completes Christian initiation, makes present Christ's sacrifice, and unites the Church as one Body.
