Adoration
Latin adorare, "to pray to, worship"
Definition
The worship due to God alone, acknowledging him as Creator and Lord; in Catholic usage it also names prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
Adoration (latria) is "the first act of the virtue of religion" (CCC 2096). It is given to God alone — never to creatures, including Mary and the saints, who receive honour (dulia).
Because Christ is truly present in the Eucharist, the Church adores him in the consecrated host, both during Mass and in Eucharistic adoration outside Mass (CCC 1378-1379).
