Editorial standards
How we write, source, review and correct what we publish.
Sources, in order of authority
- Sacred Scripture
- Dogmatic definitions of ecumenical councils and popes
- The Catechism of the Catholic Church and its Compendium
- Other magisterial documents (encyclicals, apostolic exhortations, curial documents)
- The Fathers and Doctors of the Church
- Approved theologians and historians — always identified as such
How every answer is built
- A short answer of two or three sentences that stands on its own.
- A full answer structured with headings, written for an intelligent reader without assuming a theology degree.
- At least one Scripture reference and one Catechism reference wherever doctrine is involved.
- A difficulty label — Essentials, Intermediate or Deep dive.
Weight of teaching
We never present opinion as dogma, or devotion as obligation. When Catholics legitimately disagree, we say so and present the main positions.
Scripture translations
All Scripture quoted on Catholic.id — in answers, articles, tracts, prayers and the daily verse — is taken from the New American Bible, revised edition (NABRE), the translation used in the Catholic liturgy in the United States, and is checked against the official USCCB text.
Review and corrections
Doctrinal content is reviewed before publication and re-reviewed at least every two years. Errors are corrected promptly and significant corrections are noted at the foot of the page. Report one through our contact form.
